Yesterday, Vi was extremely displeased that I left the orphanage with out her. After going out for the passport photo she just wants to leave. I don't blame her. And that tiny room is getting seriously b.o.r.i.n.g.
She was so displeased with me yesterday going without her in fact that today....I chose not to go see her.
But it's ok, really!.....Because......
TOMORROW I WILL TAKE HER OUT OF THERE FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's a lot for a little one to process, and I just felt like it was unfair to tease and leave her one more day. The next time she sees me, we will be bustin' outta that joint!
Today, instead, Lisa and I walked around the city. I saw the opera house and famous steps for the 3rd time, but I didn't mind because it means even MORE fantastic photos for Vi to have! Every person seems to see the city, places and people slightly differently and I am so thrilled with the many beautiful photos Lisa was able to capture. She promises to send them to me once she gets them edited and everything. But she put these one on Facebook so I can steal them!
First, us in the snow. It was cold. But we were brave and fearless and all that jazz, and we went out anyways.
Then, we were walking by the opera house and saw this young soldier walking with a friend. Lisa asked if she could take his picture and he smiled saying "Sure! With YOU?" Lisa handed his friend the camera, and he had a semi-annoyed look on his face like perhaps this is not the first time his soldier-friend has been asked to take a photo with two American tourists. Sorry, dude. Get a uniform and maybe some American tourists will want your photo too!
Then we did just a little bit of shopping! There was an outdoor market in front of a church not too far from our hotel. I decided to buy enough small presents for Vi that I could give her something from her country every year until she turns 18.
That meant 13 small gifts. I read about someone doing this for their adopted child, and thought it would be a neat thing.
The vendors were THRILLED to see us, walking up and down, making purchase after purchase. I was amazed when we returned home to find how little I really had to spend for 13 presents, especially considering the majority of them are handmade, and a few are quite ornate. Of course, I can't tell you what they ARE because she might read this in a couple years and then all her birthdays would be spoiled! But I am very much looking forward to selecting a gift each year that will have such a special meaning for her.
Stay tuned! Tomorrow is a Very. Big. Day!

Oh I am SOO excited for YOU!!! and HER!!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to read tomorrow's post!! see The look on Vi's face when you tell her that today is the day.. that she's leaving this home for her new one.... That you are hers forever. Wow...So beautiful!!
What a beautiful idea with the gifts! I think she will be thrilled!
ReplyDeleteI am loving following along on your journey. Vi is so precious. I can't wait to read about how she reacts to Gotcha Day!
ReplyDeleteYou mentioned about the nannies telling her about her new American name. I was wondering if "Vi" is her Russian name or if that is the new name you gave her. I understand if you can't share her full name for privacy reasons, just curious. : )
Vi is just her blog "nickname". :) Like all my other kiddos, I don't use their real names. I don't want their future boyfriends/girlfriends/employers/whoever being able to google them and read this stuff, lol!
ReplyDeleteoh boy how exciting! cant wait to see tomorrows post...where are the sight seeing jumping pics? he's cool...nearly as cool as the plug seller! xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
ReplyDeleteAwesome, awesome! I love following along. I am so excited for you both - but I cannot even imagine what tomorrow will be like for "Vi"!
