I'm the mother of five. Edo is 12, Pudah is 9, Ladybug is 5, and The Man is 2 years old. Vi is 6 and just joined our family through adoption from Ukraine! We have all held down the fort while Daddy served two year long deployments. The first was in Afghanistan 2008 and second was in Iraq in 2010. We are going to hold down the fort again this year while Daddy is in Afghanistan on a Security Force Assistance and Advisory Team for 9 months. From teething to potty training to pre-teenhood, deployment to reintegration, and everything in between...there is never a dull moment in this house!

Impact

I'm not feeling well.

At. All.

Early in the week, I was driven back and forth to the orphanage by my awesome driver, Lida. She kept saying she was just "a little bit sick", but that her husband was at home in bed "very sick" or at least "acting very sick" (we all know men don't handle being ill very well. They are like big babies. Sorry, Men.) She conveyed this to me by putting her hand to her forehead and moaning while saying "Me husband...waaaaah waaaaah waaaah! Understand??"

Then half way through the week, her husband started driving me back and forth because Lida was, in fact, too sick to come and get me and he was feeling "some better." I found this to be terribly amusing on the one hand, and most likely not so good for my immune system on the other hand.

So, I'm not visiting Vi today. I'm really hoping if I stay in and rest I can be all better by Monday, when our really crazy week begins.

Instead, I'm still in my pajamas, drinking my peach juice (they have the best juice here, I want to cry when I think about not being able to have it anymore), and sort of generally feeling miserable. I am glad I bought all the kid's their requested mementos yesterday because there's no way I'm going out this weekend and I don't think there will be time later.

But, as I came to sit at my computer and cruise the internet, I decided to turn on some music. And that music reminded me of a video I'd seen probably 2 years ago.

I went looking for it, and I found it easily.  Many of you have probably seen this, but it is sweet and beautiful, and simple.  I love watching the faces of the people who choose to dive right in, and show a complete stranger a little love.

How easy it can be to impact the world around us.  I think we forget that we don't have to do something huge and amazing to make a difference. Love your family, love your neighbors. Show some kindness to those around you, whether it's a genuine smile, a real "how are you?" or a great, big, hug.
