Well, it seems our girl is NOT a grudge-holder.
Thank goodness!
She was warm and welcoming this morning, I could hear her coming down the stairs chirping away about her Mama.
She gave me her classic big-toothless-grin, and ran in to the room. I handed her the backpack I've been bringing all week, trying to get her used to it carrying her things, being her own. She dug right in and pulled out her snack. But today, she handed me the juice box straw and asked her Mama for help. :)
I guess that means she forgives me for missing the field trip yesterday.
After that not-so-good visit yesterday I went to the grocery store. I go every other day, for bread and soda and any other treats I may feel are necessary to get through another day and evening on my own. When I passed by the small selection of toys, one thing in particular jumped out at me.
Their better-known relatives in the United States are called "HexBugs". My kids have a bunch of them, and they find them to be endlessly amusing. Tiny wriggling plastic bugs, hours of entertainment! I just had to get some for Vi, a little "sorry for ruining your day but Mama's are still cool!" present.
And those little plastic bugs didn't fail to deliver!
She played with them for an hour and a half, between eating her snack and giggling like a mad-person I'd say the visit was a huge hit! By the end she was even saying "Buggies! Buggies!!" I wish I had caught that on tape, but this will have to do:
Mama loves you, sweet girl!
I had also remembered that I brought two photos from home of her new room that she will share with Bug! I came across them in my luggage last night looking for something else, I had completely forgotten about them. But I brought them with me today and she was SUPER excited to see those as well. I looked in my Russian language book beforehand so I could say "This is your new bed!" and I pointed to her bed and to Bug's bed. I pointed to their names on the wall as well.
She repeated what I had told her twice, and then shrieking ran out in to the hall to find someone to show!!
She was so excited! Luckily there were two nannies right outside the door and she showed them the pictures. They told her that her new room and bed were beautiful and she was a such a lucky girl. I'm glad I saved them for the end of the visit, because she wanted to go and show all her friends as well. The nannnies asked me if it was ok, if we were done. We only had about 5 minutes left anyways, so I gave her a hug and kiss goodbye and let her go show off her photos.
Every day we are closer to home! I can't wait for her to see her house, and her room, and her brothers and her sister for real.

So glad she was back to her happy self and that she also has such an understanding Mama. :) I am so enjoying reading about your experiences.
ReplyDeleteReading about Vi running to tell her nannies and friends about her new room just tugged at my heart. I feel like you are living in an amazing dream! I remember so many rough things that you went through on this journey to Vi (waiting on "The List", the robbery, the news about Tanner), and I am THRILLED to share the end of this story with you (well...sorta' :). Can't wait for you to bring your sweet little girl home!
