Valentine's Day.
People write that it's silly and stupid, but I can't deny that even if it is a pretend holiday I still like to spend it with the person I love most in the world: My Husband.
However, the Army, as we all know, has a way of making sure that we know how to be self-reliant at all times by frequently denying what I want most: My Husband.
What does a self-reliant, totally-used-to-this-even-if-it-sucks Army Wife do on a holiday such as this?
Well, my husband is in training. So I can tell you what I WON'T do: I won't waste any time thinking maybe he's going to have flowers delivered or that I might find a card in the mail. In fact, I will just be extremely happy to wake up to a text message that tells me he loves me, today and always. That's what matters most anyways.
And then, being all self-reliant and stuff, I will make sure I have provided myself and my children with plenty of awesome chocolate to make it through the day.
Those are hand-dipped chocolate covered oreos. I ordered a dozen (like flowers, but tastier!) And a variety of handmade, hand-dipped caramels. The almond sea salt ones are my personal favorites.
Yum.
My friend and neighbor happens to run a caramel and chocolate making business, 7000Ft Sweets. She does wedding favors and party favors, and just because you need chocolate favors. And every Army Wife should have a neighbor and friend just like her to get through the "Living with out my husband for extended periods of time really sucks" times. Especially on the holidays
And if you don't happen to have such a wonderful friend and neighbor, never fear! Mine delivers. :) The website says they are great for "loved ones, neighbors, co-workers and teacher/student gifts" but I think we need to add "And they are especially good for any military spouse you know, any time!" to the list!
Just be warned, they are the best caramels you have every eaten. Luckily, they are very reasonably priced so it's a deployment or training addiction you will be able to feed with ease!
Happy Valentine's Day, especially to my Army Wife friends who I know are celebrating this holiday without their soldier: Danica, Emily, Allison, Deena, Erin, Nicole, Hollie and all the wives from the Apache Troop team I'm thinking of you!
(And I've got extra chocolate, if you want to stop by!)

Happy Valentine's Day and I'm sorry your husband isn't there with you. But... as just a regular person, I can say that I'm happy he's out there doing what he's doing (and others with him) to make my life safer. And I appreciate your sacrifice, too. Those chocolate covered Oreos look dangerously good!
